Ron Himes Honored
Black Rep's Ron Himes to be honored at National Black Theatre Festival

Ron Himes, Founder and Producing Director of the St. Louis Black Repertory Company, will receive the Larry Leon Hamlin Producer Award at the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival,July 31 – August 5, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Award “recognizes profound contributions producers have made to the American Theatre and the entertainment industry as a whole.” It is named after the late Larry Leon Hamlin, Founder and Executive Producer and Artistic Director of the North Carolina Black Repertory Company.
In his 40 years as head of The Black Rep in St. Louis, Himes has produced hundreds of plays – classics, contemporary and new plays, musicals and more – relating the African-American experience. He has led The Black Rep to significant national
and international recognition as a major artistic institution, and as a revered storyteller of Black culture and tradition in America and beyond.
The Festival, which offers theatre productions, workshops, films and seminars, will honor Himes at a Gala, July 31, 2017, which will also present Lou Gossett with the Sidney Poitier Lifetime Achievement Award, and other awards honoring achievements in Playwriting, Direction, Costume and Lighting Design and Stage Management, among others.
Himes is currently at work preparing for the opening of the 41st season of The Black Rep in St. Louis. He will direct the opener DOT by Colman Domingo.
