INTERNSHIPS & AMERICORP COMMUNITY ARTS FELLOWSHIPS

Since its inception more than 20 years ago, The Black Rep Fellowship Program has trained more than 100 actors, stage managers, theatre administrators, and production leaders. Each year, six to seven fellows receive extended training and performing opportunities under the program.

COMMUNITY ARTS FELLOWSHIPS

For more than 20 years, the St. Louis Black Repertory Company has helped aspiring actors, stage managers, theatre administrators and technical producers gain experience. 

The AmeriCorps Community Arts Fellowship Program offers selected individuals extensive training and performance/production opportunities while earning an annual stipend. 

Applications are now open for the Fellowship year beginning late summer/fall of 2025.

The St. Louis Black Repertory Company’s Fellowship opportunity provides a (1-3 year) full-time position and includes an annual stipend (paid each week as a weekly living allowance), health insurance subsidy, and through membership in AmeriCorps, an educational award upon completion of service. 

The program focuses on mentorship, professional development, and cultivating individual skills in a collaborative environment designed to provide talented candidates from historically excluded groups with the experience, resources and training needed for building a career in the arts.

The fellowship is designed for recent college graduates (or equivalent) who want to pursue professional careers in the theater while building their professional resumes. Fellowships are given to applicants whose commitment to artistic achievement is evident in the quality of their work.

Individuals accepted into the Fellowship Program can expect and will participate in:

  • Comprehensive theatre/conservatory training.

  • Master classes with guest directors, performers, and playwrights. 

  • Educational touring productions and workshops throughout the St. Louis area community.

  • Hands-on assignments as a part of the mainstage productions.

  • Work assignments from the artistic, administrative, and technical departments. 

  • Opportunities to attend performances, concerts and events throughout the St. Louis region.

Through participation in the AmeriCorps Community Arts Fellowships, awardees are eligible for a health insurance subsidy and student loan deferment, and additional training including CPR/First aid certification and disaster preparedness/response training. 

Artistic Fields encouraged to apply: Acting; Directing; Writing; Technical Production - Lighting, Costume, Sound; Arts Administration - Marketing, Fundraising, Program Development.

Former Fellows are now working throughout the country at theatres including the Actor's Theatre of Louisville; the Redline Theatre Company, Black Ensemble Theater and Metro Theatre Company in Chicago; the Shakespeare Festival St. Louis, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Fly North Theatricals and COCA — Center of Creative Arts in  St. Louis; the Alley Theater and Main Street Theater in Houston; and the National Theatre for Children in Minneapolis.
