INTERNSHIPS & AMERICORP COMMUNITY ARTS FELLOWSHIPS

Since its inception more than 20 years ago, The Black Rep Fellowship Program has trained more than 100 actors, stage managers, theatre administrators, and production leaders. Each year, six to seven fellows receive extended training and performing opportunities under the program.

Supported in part by AmeriCorps and the Missouri Community Service Commission.

The St Louis Black Repertory Company has opened applications for the AmeriCorps Community Arts Fellowship for the 2024-2025 Season. This paid fellowship is for aspiring, committed, and driven young artists seeking to transition from academia and bridge the gap to their professional careers in theatre and build their professional resumes.

Artists accepted into the Fellowship Program are involved in a comprehensive theatre/conservatory format and carry out assignments from the artistic, administrative, and technical departments. The Fellows also have the opportunity to teach technical and acting workshops and participate in hands-on artistic duties as a part of the mainstage productions and educational touring programs throughout the community. Fellows are immersed in the complete operations of the theatre and also assist with administrative tasks from selling tickets to booking touring productions and processing donations.

The St. Louis Black Repertory Company’s Fellowship opportunity is a full-time position, which typically runs August through June and includes a weekly stipend of $420, health insurance subsidy, and an educational award upon completion of service. Member training will include an initial orientation, CPR/First aid certification, disaster preparedness/response, professional development, and more. As an AmeriCorps member, you will receive a weekly living allowance, training and professional development, student loan deferment, and eligibility for other public service loan forgiveness programs. Furthermore, Fellows will take master classes with guest directors, performers, and playwrights. In the past, fellows have also had the opportunity to be featured in The Black Rep’s award-winning mainstage productions!

Upon completion of the program, many Fellows have gone to attend graduate school, become teaching artists, and work at many reputable theatre companies including the Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Redline Theatre Company, Black Ensemble Theater, Metro Theatre Company, Shakespeare Festival St Louis, Repertory Theatre of St Louis, Fly North Theatricals, COCA, Alley Theater Main Street Theater, and the National Theatre for Children!
